EXCLUSIVE: Here’s a trailer for The Sea Beyond, the Italian drama series headed for streamer MHz Choice.

The series is due to launch in the U.S. and Canada on October 17 after MHZ snagged the series from distributor Beta. MHz’s exclusive rights deal, struck earlier this month, spans four seasons.

Italian pubcaster RAI first ordered the show, which follows two young men, Filippo (Nicolas Maupas) and Carmine (Massimiliano Caiazzo), serving time in a juvenile detention center near Naples. Neither dreamt of a life of crime and are forced to fend off attacks from fellow detainee Ciro (Giacamo Giorgio), an up-and-coming crime boss. It stars Nicolas Maupas and Massimiliano Caiazzo.

The Italian-language series, which will be subtitled in English, is known for being a hit on Netflix Italy, where it has spent 30 weeks in the streamer’s Top 10. Locally, it’s know as Mare Fuori.

The Kino Lorber Media Group-owned MHz picked it up along with Camorra – Code of Honor and season three of Makari: Sicilian Mysteries. The streamer offers a multitude of international series.

Cristina Farina (Vivere) and Maurizio Careddu (Rocco Schiavone)’s show launched in Italy in 2020, with the second launching in November 2021 and the third through streamer RaiPlay in February this year. It comes from Rai in association with Picomedia.

Writers are Angelo Petrella (Resta con me), Luca Monesi (La Squadra), Peppe Fiore (The Young Pope) and Paolo Piccirillo (Blocco 181) and Carmine Elia (The Red Door, Sopravvissuti), Milena Cocozza (Romanzo Criminale) and Ivan Silvestrini (Zero) are the directors.
