Scavengers Reign will not be returning for a second season. Per Variety, Max has cancelled the adult animated sci-fi series after 12 episodes but the show is getting a second chance on another outlet.

The series, which stars Sunita Mani, Wunmi Mosaku, Alia Shawkat, Bob Stephenson, and Ted Travelstead, follows the survivors of Demeter 227, a damaged deep space freighter. They are stranded on Vesta, an alien planet with abundant plant life and dangers.

The first season was released in October and November of last year.

While the Scavengers Reign series will not continue on Max, the first season will begin airing on Netflix on May 31st. Word is that the streamer is open to a second season if the dozen episodes perform well enough.

Joe Bennett and Charles Huettner created the series based on Scavengers, their 2016 short film. Bennett, Huettner, Chris Prynoski. Sean Buckelew and James Merrill serve as co-executive producers, with Benjy Brooke as supervising director.

“We are beyond thrilled that Scavengers Reign will be joining the incredible animation lineup on Netflix,” said Bennett, Buckelew, Merrill, and Brooke in a statement. “We’re immensely grateful to everyone who has watched the show already and to Netflix for giving it an opportunity to be discovered by a wider audience.”
