Up To 10 Injured At Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl Celebration Shooting, Fire Department Says – Update

UPDATE, 12:45 PM: In the aftermath of shots ringing out at a celebration of the Kansas City ChiefsSuper Bowl victory, Fire Department chief Michael Hopkins has confirmed that eight to 10 people have been injured.

Hopkins did not provide any more information.

On CNN, anchor Brianna Keilar noted today is the sixth anniversary of the tragic Parkland School shootings. She added: “This is the reality of living in America, these shootings.”

PREVIOUSLY, 12:23 PM: BREAKING …Gunshots rang out today at a rally celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs’ latest Super Bowl win.

Police are reporting that “multiple people” have been struck down as law enforcement are attempting to clear the area. Two armed individuals have been taken into custody, but it is not clear if they were involved in the shooting around Kansas City’s Union Station.

As the Kansas City Fire Department describe what’s happening as a “fluid situation,” the KC Police have been updating the situation on social media:

In the chaos with tens of thousands of fans and others there, ambulances are on the scene. CNN first broke into their programing to cover this attack, with Fox News following and MSNBC and the BBC coming in next. On the broadcast networks, NBC on the West Coast had live coverage of the shooting, CBS stayed with the Champions League soccer game they had scheduled, and ABC had GMA 3. On the East Coast, only NBC were live on what was happening in the Missouri metropolis.

The gunfire came shortly after the Chiefs concluded their victory parade for their second Super Bowl triumph in a row. With the sidewalks packed, the victory loop saw key members of the team like quarterback Patrick  Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce and others addressing and interacting with the crowd.
