Netflix Italy Lines Up Projects From Stefano Mordini, Alessandro Genovesi & More

Netflix’s next Italian originals will be pairs of series and feature films from the likes of Stefano Mordini, Alessandro Genovesi and Cristina Comencini.

The projects were unveiled at a See What’s Next event in Rome today, in front of several stars, directors and stars.

Tinny Andreatta, Vice President of Italian Content at Netflix, said the orders showed the streamer remains “committed to our investment in Italy and Italian stories with conviction, continuing our long-term commitment to the country and its creative community.” Netflix opened an Italian office in May last year.

Namely, pics are Cristina Comencini’s Il Treno dei Bambini and Fabbricante di Lacrime from director Alessandro Genovesi. TV shows comprise Storia della mia Famiglia and Adorazione.

Il Treno dei Bambini is based on Viola Ardone’s bestselling novel pf the same name and is billed as as an “epic and poignant film” set in post-war Italy seen through the eyes of a child torn between two mothers. Palmor is producing with Comencini, Furio Andreotti, Giulia Calenda and Camille Dugay writing. Cast comprises Barbara Ronchi, Serena Rossi, Christian Cervone, Francesco Di Leva, Antonia Truppo, Monica Nappo, Nunzia Schiano and featuring Stefano Accorsi.

Fabbricante di Lacrime, from Colorado Film Production, is based on the Erin Doom book of the same name. Alessandro Usai and animation producer Iginio Straffi are the the producers, with Genovesi the director. Cast includes Caterina Ferioli and Simone Baldasseroni.

On the series front, the six-part Adorazione comes from Picomedia and is loosely adapted from the novel of the same name by author Alice Urciuolo. Donatella Diamanti, Giovanni Galassi, Tommaso Matano, Francesca Tozzi and Gianluca Gloria are the writers and 2 Win‘s Stefano Mordini is the director.

It follows a group of teenage girls and boys during the summer that will change their lives forever. A large ensemble cast includes Noemi Magagnini, Alice Lupparelli, Beatrice Puccilli, Penelope Raggi, Luigi Bruno, Giulio Brizzi, Tommaso Donadoni, Federico Russo, Alessia Cosmo, Federica Bonocore, Barbara Chichiarelli, Claudia Potenza , Max Mazzotta, Mario Sgueglia and Ilenia Pastorelli.

Storia della mia Famiglia is an original script from Filippo Gravino and Elisa Dondi, with Claudio Cupellini directing. The show follows a man on the last day of his life. Netflix is billing it as a “tale of joy, passion, love for his children, and a lack of fear for the future. But above all, the story of an unlikely family, of a beloved clan on which Fausto imposes unexpected responsibilities.”

Eduardo Scarpetta, Vanessa Scalera, Massimiliano Caiazzo, Cristiana Dell’Anna and Antonio Gargiulo lead the cast.

The shows join an Italian Netflix originals slate that also includes Everything Calls for Salvation season 2, Rhythm + Flow Italy, Brigands: The Quest for Gold, The Law According to Lidia Poët season 2, The Leopard Superset and Vasco Rossi: Living It.
