EXCLUSIVE: Disney+ Hotstar has kicked off 2024 with the trailer for the Indian remake of ABC’s Revenge, and rounded out its ensemble cast.
Ahead of Karmma Calling‘s launch on January 26, the two-minute trailer shows scenes full of drama, mystery and intrigue. Raveena Tandon plays Indrani Kothari, the reigning society queen in glamorous Alibaug, who takes on Karma Talwar (Namrata Steth) when she joins the coastal town’s elite.
Tandon and Steth lead the cast alongside Varun Sood, and newly announced in key roles are Gaurav Sharma, Waluscha D’souza, Amy Aela, Viraf Patel and Piyush Khati.
Disney+ Hotstar’s parent company, Disney, is deep in the midst of attempting to merge its assets with Reliance Industries, but that hasn’t stopped the streamer unveiling several new originals recently, including Karmma Calling and a drama series about Bollywood titled Showtime, as we revealed in December.
Karmma Calling is from R.A.T. Films and adapted by Ruchi Narain from Disney-owned ABC’s drama Revenge, which ran between 2011 and 2015 on the broadcast network. The Mike Kelley drama, inspired by Alexander Dumas’ 1844 novel The Count of Montecristo and produced by ABC Signature, followed Emily VanCamp as a young woman who poses as a new resident of an affluent Hamptons seaside town to gain revenge on families who wronged her two decades prior. Narain is directing the Indian series.
“With Karmma Calling, we bring to audiences an entertaining story that narrates a tale of two powerful women in a glamorous set-up and around the themes of love, deceit, betrayal, romance and vengeance that will resonate with our viewers,” said Gaurav Banerjee, Head of Content, Disney+ Hotstar & HSM Entertainment Network, Disney Star. “The series has been beautifully made by Ruchi Narain and R.A.T Films have been brilliant partners to create this extravagant series.”
“Karmma Calling is a tale of the glamorous, powerful Indrani Kothari and the enigmatic Karma Talwar and it’ll surely keep the audiences on Disney+ Hotstar hooked,” added Tandon, who was a huge Bollywood star during the 1990s.
Tandon appeared in Netflix series Aranyak as the streaming series boom took off in India, and starred in local box office hit K.G.F: Chapter 2.
