A body has been found in the search for TV presenter Michael Mosley on a Greek island, according to the BBC.

The BBC said it had been informed by a number of people including the island’s mayor, one of many who has been searching the Greek island of Symi since Mosley went missing four days ago.

Authorities, Mosley’s family and volunteers have also been searching for the TV presenter and believed he was in a remote mountainous area. A police source told the BBC the body, which is yet to be formally identified, had been dead “for a number of days.”

The news comes not long after Mosley’s wife Clare Bailey issued a statement saying “we will not lose hope.”

Mosley, who is 67, vanished after setting off from a beach on the island on Wednesday afternoon. The couple have four children, who are reported to have travelled to the island to assist in the search.

Mosley is one of the UK’s best known TV presenters, making his name in a series of nutrition and health documentaries after first working as a producer at the BBC. He is the author of several health books, and is credited with creating the popular 5:2 diet, in which people lose weight by reducing their intake on two days in every week. He also hosts the BBC podcast The One Thing about physical and mental health.

His wife’s statement yesterday read: “It has been three days since Michael left the beach to go for a walk. The longest and most unbearable days for myself and my children.

“The search is ongoing and our family are so incredibly grateful to the people of Symi, the Greek authorities and the British Consulate who are working tirelessly to help find Michael.”
